Rated 5 out of 5 by Great--but only after a successful set up. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I did have difficulty setting up the software initially on two different machines. One was a Lenovo G770, the other a Dell, both laptops. I had different experiences with both machines. Setups were done on Windows XP and 7. Calling customer support was not helpful--I was told it must be a problem with the computers and they had no information to offer. The solution was re-installing the software, a solution suggested by my local neighborhood PC store. This worked. Somehow the first installation attempt did not work. I suggest Customer Support offer this advice to subsequent customers. March 19, 2013

Summary
Measurement Computing's USB-488 is a USB-to-GPIB controller module that converts any PC with a USB interface into a full-function, IEEE 488.2 bus controller. The unit performs all of the basic IEEE-488.1 functions such as talker, listener, and system controller. Its IEEE-488.2 controller routines make it fully compliant with the IEEE 488.2 specification. The USB-488 module is a plug-and-play USB peripheral that is supported under Microsoft Windows 2000/XP® operating systems.

The USB-488 Controller is a small module that plugs onto any open GPIB connector. The open GPIB connector can be the open end of a cable stack or on the back of an instrument. Finger size jackscrews secure and hold the USB-488 module in any position.

The USB-488 includes the GPIB-488 software library for Windows® 2000/XP/Vista, and NI LabVIEW™. The library includes National Instruments' style 488.1 'ib' and 488.2 command sets. The driver provides support for 32-bit, Visual Basic® and C/C++ language programs, and is compatible with National Instruments' VISA™ and NI LabVIEW™.

Many applications can be configured in a few minutes, rather than days or weeks.
