The four thermocouple receptacles make it easy to move to alternate locations for recording different data. Also includes excellent data-logging software (free). With 44 years experience in a laboratory collecting data, I bought this for my personal use at home. Highly recommended. February 4, 2014

We are running our annealing kilns at very high temperature. We mount thermocouple on the units to be annealed and then monitor the temperature on an instrument sitting outside hooked up to a computer. Would this unit monitor a kiln temperature at 1600°F with a thermocouple?

Thank you for your inquiry. With the USB-5104 standalone data logger and a K type thermocouple (with the proper insulation) you would be capable of logging temperature up to 2498 degrees F. The USB-5104 would require the use of a PC to configure the device and to off-load your data but does not require the use of a PC to collect the data. If you are looking for a device to collect real time temperature data via USB then take a look at the USB-TC (which would give you the same temperature range as the USB-5104)

Answer: 
The unit supports K thermocouples which handle up to 2460F. Only issue might be the ambient temperature where the unit will be placed. The housing is made of plastic.

MCC does not offer NIST traceable calibration services for this model. You could identify a 3rd party facility, and send the unit out to them. They would not calibrate it, but they would verify the accuracy.

There is no field calibration for the USB-5104 hardware. Also the USB-5100 Series software does not allow/accept offset factors. If you felt an offset was necessary, you would have to export the data to a file, and use Excel to adjust the data.

Does the software allow for continuous and live monitoring of the measured temperatures. Does it allow plotting of the live data or do I need to download data and plot data in an application like Excel?

Thank you for your inquiry. The USB-5104 is a standalone data logger. The software does not allow for real time data management. It does support a real time LCD display. Graphing of the data can be accomplished after the data has been off loaded. You can use the USB-5100 Series software package or Excel to graph and analyze your data. If you prefer real time data management then please consider using our USB-TC with our TracerDAQ application. The USB-TC supports up to 8 thermocouple inputs and TracerDAQ will capture, display, and log up to 8 channels of thermocouple data from our USB-TC.

Summary

The USB-5104 is the first product in the USB-5100 Series of multi-channel data loggers. The logger can log data from up to four thermocouple (TC) sensors, and includes an internal 10K thermistor to record ambient temperature.

The USB-5104 has 4 MB of memory that can store 1.6 million measurements.

Users can easily configure logger sampling intervals (one second to over 18 hours), high/low temperatures alarms using the USB-5100 Series Data Logger software, which is available as a download.

Burst logging can also be configured through software, allowing the logger to vary sampling intervals based on changing temperature condition.

The built-in LCD screen displays temperature, logging status, battery use, and memory consumption in between readouts.

The USB-5104 is powered by two AAA batteries (standard included; rechargeable supported).

TC and Temperature Input
The USB-5104 provides up to four high-accuracy TC input channels that support J, K, T, E, R, S, B, or N type TC sensors. Each channel can be individually-configured based on the connected TC type.

The logger also includes an internal 10K thermistor to record ambient temperature and to provide cold-junction compensation of the TC output.

Device Buttons
The USB-5104 provides two software-configurable buttons on the device for users to manually control logging and data display.

Start/Stop button: Depending on the software configuration, users can:

press this button for three seconds to start/resume logging, or to stop logging

press this button for one second to record an internal event or to turn on the LCD screen

Alarm/Stats button: Depending on the software configuration, users can:

press the button to clear a tripped alarm

press the button to switch between statistics, alarm readings, the current sensor reading, and the internal temperature reading
