Regarding the OEM PCB, what is the purpose of the metallic ring around the mounting hole near the USB connector? It is connected to the shield pin of the USB. Do we need to connect this metallic ring to the shielding of the device, or it is OK to do it only by the USB connector? Thanks

That mounting hole with the metallic ring, on the OEM model, is labeled TH1. TH1 has a direct connection to the chassis ground of the DAQ, and is also connected to the USB shell. Energy shunted to the DAQ’s chassis ground would normally go to earth ground via the USB shell/cable, but we highly recommend that you also connecting TH1 to your earth/chassis ground.

Hello, I am using more than one DT9812 at the same time and I would like to be able to identify witch module is what. Is it possible to set a name or a specific ID /serial that can be used for that ? I would like that the number or name is stored inside the DT9812 that I can detect it even if I change the computer. Thanks Olivier

Each Data Translation module contains a unique board ID, which can be found in Windows’ (legacy) Control Panel via the Open Layers Control Panel applet. A user can also determine the module’s board ID when developing a custom application with Data Translation’s OpenLayers for .NET (use the GetHardwareInfo method to retrieve the device’s BoardID). Note that while the BoardID is unique, it does not correlate to the S/N labeled on module. The BoardID does seem well suited to your stated need, as it will travel with the module to another computer. For sake of completeness, while not suitable for your stated need, the following info on DeviceName is provided: When a Data Translation module is connected to a Windows system, the module is assigned a ‘DT-Open Layer Name’ that can be found in Windows’ (legacy) Control Panel via the Open Layers Control Panel applet. The first DT9812-10V module connected will be assigned ‘DT9812(00)’. Additional modules of the same model will have an incremented name, i.e. ‘DT9812(01)’ for the second module. A user can also determine the module’s name when developing a custom application with Data Translation’s OpenLayers for .NET (use the Device class to retrieve the ‘DeviceName’ property). Note, if the DT9812-10V module is disconnected and then connected to a different system, the module’s assigned name will then depend on what order the module was connected to the system and whether or not the module was previously connected to the system. Information for each module’s connection is retained in the system’s Registry (as is the device’s BoardID). Lastly, in the DT9812 Series User’s Manual, the ‘Changing the Name of a Module’ section of chapter 2 discusses how to access the Open Layers Control Panel applet and how to edit the board’s name.

Regrettably, we do not have a CAD model for the DT9812-10V-OEM. However, we do have a dimensional drawing that can be downloaded from here: https://www.mccdaq.com/pdfs/drawing

Hello, I am using the DT9812. I would like to be able to follow which DT9812 is in which device to be able to know which device is impacted in case of failure. Where can I find the trackability lot number? Is it possible to read it in the firmware?

Each Data Translation device is assigned a unique device ID (also known as board ID). This ID is easily found via the Open Layers Control Panel applet, on a target system with the Data Translation OMNI software (Open Layers) already installed. If multiple DT devices, of the same model, are connected to the same system, then the end-user should access the Open Layers Control Panel applet to review the device ID, after each connection. For programmers using the DT-Open Layers Win32 SDK, the sixth argument in the olDaGetHardwareInfo() function returns the DT device's serial number, as a hex value. Converted to a decimal value, the serial number matches the ID number listed in the Open Layers Control Panel applet. Please review the DASDK.chm Help file located in folder: 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Data Translation\Win32\SDK\Documentation'. For programmers using DT-Open Layers for .NET, the Device.GetHardwareInfo method returns the 'BoardID' value. Please reference the DT-Open Layers for .NET Class Library User’s Manual. https://www.mccdaq.com/PDFs/Manuals/UMOpenLayers.pdf
