Simple to use

Without having any previous experience with DAQ/Control systems, I was able to set up the E-1608 to control and record data from a new system that I am developing within a couple of days. DASYLab was very intuitive and has a lot of nice features that allowed the system to be setup so that others outside of the project could easily use the product during testing.

The E-1608 is a great addition to our facility

I've never used any DAQ equipment before. We needed to monitor some equipment in our facility and the E-1608 worked perfectly for us. We are mostly using the analog inputs right now but we will be using the digital I/O soon. This was very easy to setup. We have since bought 2 more of the E-1608 to expand the system. We have been wanting to get some DAQ equipment for a few years now but everything else we found was very expensive. Using DAQ equipment from mccdaq.com has opened our eyes to just how much we can monitor in our facility.

NEED MORE

I have been waiting for Measure Computing to release something that supports Ethernet, and move away from PCI/PCIe and USB. I am a true believer in Ethernet for DAQ, and this product has shown why. It is easy to set up, easy to distribute, none of the potential serious errors USB and PCI are susceptible to, and works flawlessly with Instacal and ULx and .NET UL. I want MORE like this, for different measurement/control type.

Compact, solid I/O module

We've used this I/O block in the past, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's DIN rail mountable now, with the addition of an optional adapter. Easy to mount and wire, and takes up very little real estate on the sub panel. we will use again!

Specified in the datasheet, the E-1608 has +-10,+-5,+-2 and +-1, four ranges to choose from. And it is "software-selectable per channel". But I didn't find how to do that. Which software to use? At least I didn't find anything in Instacal. And I'm using E-1608 with Labview.

The input range is selected in the higher level software program, which in your case, is LabVIEW via our ULx driver. The ULx Create Virtual Channel VI has two inputs that indirectly select the range for you. The two inputs are Minimum Value and Maximum Value. You choose these two values based on your signal/sensor’s analog output range, and then ULx picks the best DAQ hardware input range that can accommodate it.

In the OEM version what are the W2 and W4 connections? Are they a copy of the screw terminals do they serve another purpose? Since we test 12 and 24 volt devices, I'm looking for a way to add a voltage divider without needing a daughter board.

Answers

Header connector W2 provides connections to the digital I/O, the trigger and external clock as well as the power output and digital grounds. Header W4 provides connections to the analog inputs, outputs and analog grounds. The headers are used in place of the screw terminals for accessing the I/O on the E-1608-OEM version. inst cal has the device loaded. test pass. all other applications indicate there is no device. downloaded latest mcdaq, got message newer version installed on the system. What is going on? PS: evaluating this for a large test system redesign. need to be able to make it work consistently before i start the effort.

It sounds as if you had an older version of InstaCal and/or a UL-based application program previously on the PC, and there is a version mismatch or duplicate files. It is helpful if there is a3 d model of the oem PWBs so it can be used ot create a daughter card with additional circuitry. it appears the OEM modules have identical form factors.

Are you currently working towards providing Linux support for this E-1608 board? Currently, you have almost every USB DAQ board supported, but not this E-1608, yet. Can I expect support Linux support for this board in the near future (including RaspberryPi)? The Measurement and Test Automation industry is utilizing Ethernet based DAQ equipment more and more, due to its many advantages. The E-1608 is a great board, and I hope M.C. continues to expand the E-XXXX series. However, Linux support is a MUST for an engineer like myself, so I really hope support is coming soon. Thanks!

USB-1608G series is mentioned, but the Ethernet version is not. Will I be able to use the UL with the E-1608? I intend to use C# to communicate with this device.

Yes, the E-1608 is supported by our latest release of the Universal Library. I also checked the latest revision of the UL Help to make sure the E-1608 was included and currently all supported hardware including the E-1608 is listed in our Help files. The latest revision for our UL Help (as of 6/17/2015) is rev 20 which was released in December of 2014. You can check what revision you have at the bottom of the UL Help’s cover page. If you need to update your Help file I would recommend that you download the latest MCC DAQ CD from http://www.mccdaq.com/software.aspx

Answers

The most common method for using the E-1608 is wirelessly via the tablet/smartphone’s existing Wi-Fi access. The E-1608 would connect to your network via CAT-6 Ethernet cable. While less common, you could instead use a third-party USB to Ethernet dongle for a hard-wired connection. As for discovery, if the E-1608 is connected to the same subnet (wired or wireless), the discovery of the E-1608 is automatic. If not connected to the same subnet, we provide a manual method for discovering the E-1608 by inputting the IP address for the E-1608.

There are a couple of projects on Github that work great with native Python access to these devices. I use this code to talk natively to MC devices using Ubuntu Server 14.04 without the need for IronPython or using MC libraries etc. Small, clean and fast.
