Excellent product at a great price.

It is capable of doing what I need, and plays well with LabVIEW. I do have trouble with recognition by National Instruments drivers on occasion, but I can work around it relatively easily.

Great product, Instacal could be so much better

This product like, all MC products, is a fantastic value. I specially like the ability to expand the DIO96H to control SSRs directly. There is also a variety of SSRs to choose from. I just wish, like the other reviewers, that the configuration software Instacal would handle DIO configuration. While Instacal is very capable of displaying the value of and controlling analog channels (thus enabling easy troubleshooting during installation), it cannot do the same for digital channels. DO channels cannot be turned on/off using the software and DI channels cannot be monitored either. MC should fix this shortcoming of Instacal soon.

This product meets the application requirements superbly

This product provides a very reliable and robust method of achieving 96 bits of digital I/O at a modest cost. By using the USB port it is usable on virtually any Windows based PC, laptop or tablet. We have been using these DIO modules for several years and have had absolutely no problem with them. The software drivers install easily without issues and the handy Instacal utility makes setting up and verifying the equipment a snap.

USB connected 96 bit Digital IO made my test set development easy

Using the USB-DIO96H/50 made driving 80+ IO to control isolation circuits, high current pulse switching circuits, multiplexed DMM and O'scope inputs, and built in test (BIT) circuitry easy. The setup was a breeze, the programming was simple, straight forward, and saved me a lot of software development time. The offering of the USB-DIO96H with either screw terminals OR 50-way IDC headers made system integration a snap. The USB-DIO96H really saved us time and money.

Driving 80+ IO to control isolation circuits, high current pulse switching circuits, multiplexed DMM and O'scope inputs, and built in test (BIT) circuitry seemed like an expensive proposition, but the USB-DIO96H/50 took care of the price issue. AND Thanks to InstaCal the setup was a breeze, thanks to the Measurement Computing manuals and Universal Library the programming was simple, straight forward, and saved me a lot of software development time. The offering of the USB-DIO96H with either screw terminals OR 50-way IDC headers made system integration a snap. The USB-DIO96H really saved us money and time! Thanks for the great products.

96 I/O channel module operates as advertised. Technical manual provides details that enable correct installation and integration Software included is very limited and only provides a limited self test. Highly suggest an expanded channel input/ output test so that device can be exercised fully prior to installation or for evaluation. Suggest PCB only unit (i.e. - without metal closure) as option.

This 96 digital I/O is a unique product. Good.

Unit performed as advertised. Suggestions: Provide a better evaluation / test software package allowing individual control of each channel. Using the provided program is OK for unit testing but worthless to test channel use for evaluation Offer unit without chassis - i.e. metal work.

Decent product with high I/O count.

We used this product as a front end of one for one of our valve driver products. Our product required 96 bits of I/O, which is difficult to find for a reasonable price, and in that regard, this product fit the bill. We only wish that the USB interface was faster - we can only update the I/O, all 96 bits, at 120 Hz. Our software could be partly to blame for this, but I don't think so. If this product came out in a USB 3.0 version, that would be incredible! Overall, we're very pleased with the price vs. performance.

Is it possible to sink the full 64 mA on all 96 channels simultaneously and for an indefinite period of time? I understand that I'll need to use my own power supply to do this.

Yes, the USB-DIO96H uses a 74ABT244A which is capable of sinking 64mA per bit and just to reiterate, a 5 volt source capable of handling the current will need to be provided by the end user.

In the spec sheet is states: "Data IO Transfer Rates: System dependent, 33 to 250 port reads/writes or single bit reads/writes per second" I am using LabView 2011 to control the unit on a Core i5 computer running Windows 7, 64 bit. What rate can I expect?

Answers

The USB-DIO96H is an HID device and is therefore is a relatively slow device. In addition to being HID, the throughput is generally determined by the USB chipset/hub being used. i.e. the CPU/OS/LabVIEW are all efficient enough to perform much faster I/O, so the limiting factor is the USB device together with the chipset/hub. In summary, the throughput can vary per PC, but typically it is 125 port-writes per second or 62 port-reads per second. The USB-DIO96H has 96 bits spread across 16 ports, so to write to all 16 ports can be done 7 or so times per second.

Have purchsed several of these modules and we also tried to power the 96 I/O unit with 3.3 V (as a test - requested by engineering staff) and our evaluation unit did not function correctly. Our units seem drop off line at 4.45V.

The USB-DIO96H requires a 5 volt +-5% power source to function properly. Using a 3.3 volt source will not meet the requirements. Currently, our USB-2500 series http://www.mccdaq.com/productsearch.aspx?q=USB-25 offer 3.3 volt compatibility as does our PCIe-DIO24 product http://www.mccdaq.com/pci-data-acquisition/PCIe-DIO24.aspx.
