KEY HIGHLIGHTS

The USB-1602HS and USB-1604HS Series high-speed USB data acquisition (DAQ) devices provide simultaneous analog input along with digital I/O and counter functions. Each device features an A/D per channel, three quadrature encoders, and two timers. Up to two analog outputs are available.

This is an excellent High speed DAQ module

I used the USB-1604HS in a high speed analog aquisition application for vibration analysis. The simultaneous sampling of the analog input channels worked very well and provided the bandwidth we needed for my tests. This is a great 4 channel high speed module for a reasonable price.

Good product, needs more range.

This product is a good product but for the money it needs more range. The range is .5V, 2.5V, 5V, and 10V. But with 2023 I can get down to .2V which I used for my signal.

Can the USB-1602HS single ended analog inputs measure a signal on a 5Vdc common mode voltage, with the A/D return at 5V, due to the USB power isolation feature?

Answers

We spec 500 VDC isolation between the USB bus and the DAQ I/O (but as soon as you connect one of the I/O to something that is not floating or isolated, then the DAQ becomes anchored. The analog common jack on the back of this DAQ family connects only to the BNC shells on its front … it does not connect to chassis/earth. This is where you would connect one low-side reference to serve both of your analog inputs (i.e. your anchor). In short, yes the unit can measure a signal riding on a 5Vdc common mode voltage, but you must be careful not to connect the BNC shells to any device that grounds its own BNC shell (i.e. at the other end of the cable) to earth. Also be careful (or don’t use) the digital I/O or counter I/O, since their ground will be anchored (indirectly) to your low-side reference potential.

if i record a sampling of 10 second at 1M sampling rate with the ADC, can i output the same amount of point with the DAC during 10second. like 10M point

Yes, the USB-1602HS-2AO supports (2) 16 bit DACs with a per-channel update rate of 1 MS/sec. Your Windows buffer must be previously allocated and pre-loaded prior to the start of your AOutScan method.

I have tried the ULAO02.py but it does not work (says board #0 not found or not compatible. When I run TracerDAQ or InstaCal both show the board #0 present and working.

Based on your report, we have confirmed that ULAO02.py is currently incompatible with the USB-1602HS-2AO hardware model. We will log that as a bug here. Instead we can refer you to the following 4 analog output examples which do run OK on this hardware model: v_out.py, a_out_scan.py, ULAO01.py, and DaqOutScan01.py.

I'm not sure I understood one of the answers listed. you've written that is can output 1MS/s - does this mean it has a buffer size of 16bit x 1MS = 16Mbit / 2MByte ?

Answers

The USB-1604HS-2AO has a 1 Mbyte FIFO that is shared with the boards I/O subsystems. The analog output FIFO can hold up to 544288 samples. The previous answer is referring to a Windows buffer that you allocate from within your software program and preload with your waveform data.
