Excellent development tool

I have found many applications for this product in our development lab. When we purchased it I expected to mostly interface with the Matlab extension, however I was pleasantly surprised to find that the data acquisition software it came with was very intuitive and useful for our applications. Would highly recommend.

Great Product for the Price

Easy to set up if you follow directions. Samples quickly. I haven't had a reason to use the analog outputs yet. The programming examples were nice to get me started. I really liked the price on this unit for what you get. I followed the C# examples provided to get me going. When you need high rates of collection, the only way to get all of the data is through large data dumps collected by a buffer. Trying to figure out an accurate way to timestamp the incoming data is tricky. It's also an important factor when dealing with high rates of data. I believe I've found a way to manage it, but it needs more testing.

I needed a simple, inexpensive way to replace a strip chart recorder. The USB-231 did exactly what I was hoping it world. TracerDAQ software that is free is very well suited to my application.

Easy to use, great value

We used the analog output to control a VFD and noise from this line was transmitted into the computer and made measurements from a PCI data acquisition card very noisy. A USB isolator device was purchased and installed and eliminated the noise. We used an NI cDAQ USB device to control the VFD and we did not have noise issues. This leads me to believe the NI chassis has isolation features built in and the USB-231 does not. Outside of having to troubleshoot this noise issue, the USB-231 is a great easy to use product and is easy to implement into labview.

Low system noise

The 231 has the lowest system noise for any reasonably cheap USB DAQ unit that I could find. The setup process is kind of confusing and the computer doesn't always immediately recognize the device but it is easy to use once you know what to do.

Nice product but be aware of limitations

Pros: - Easy to set up - Performs as advertised - 16 bit resolution is a plus - Great telephone support Cons: - Fixed ADC range of +/- 10 VDC. Can't change. - If using DAC output as well, your ADC input speed is limited to 5k Samples/sec, tops.

Thank you for all the kudos. We do appreciate it as MCC does pride itself on our products being “Easy to Use, Easy to Integrate, and Easy to Support”. Sorry about the +- 10 volts confusion. The data sheet and the User’s manual clearly state that the device supports a fixed +- 10 volt input, but we’re also going to add it to the “Key Highlights” section on the product pages. Furthermore, MCC does have low cost DAQ devices that offer software selectable input ranges that may better suit your application. As for the sample rate limitation that you mention below, DASYLab does in fact support both the analog input and analog outputs at their rated sample/update rates. However, after some testing I can see how this could be an issue for future customers so MCC has put together a knowledgebase article outlining how you can scan both your analog inputs and outputs at their full rated sample rate using DASYLab. You can review the article here: http://kb.mccdaq.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50575.aspx

No, the USB-231 cannot be used for temperature measurements. It lacks the necessary signal conditioning that is required for most temperature sensors. Measurement Computing offers a large selection of temperature compatible data acquisition devices. Please contact Sales Engineering at 1-800-234-4232 Ext-3 for assistance in product selection.

The AI FIFO on the USB-231 is 2,048 samples wide. The data is transferred over the USB bus in packets of 256 samples. Packet size increases in multiples of 256 based on the sample rate. The USB-231 supports an external digital (0-5 volt logic) trigger. Configurable for rising or falling edge detection.

To use MCC hardware on a Raspberry PI requires the use of our Linux drivers. Unfortunately, the USB-230 series is currently not supported by our Linux drivers. However, we do offer several 16 bit data acquisition devices that are supported. All MCC hardware supported by our Linux drivers are listed here: https://www.mccdaq.com/PDFs/Manuals/Linux-hw.pdf

Hello Indy, Yes, you most certainly can connect two USB-231 DAQ devices under the same DASYLab worksheet. By adding an additional MCC-DRV Analog Input module to your worksheet you will gain support for the other USB-231. In fact, by adding additional MCC-DRV modules to your DASYLab worksheet you can add support for various MCC DAQ devices

Yes, TracerDAQ PRO will handle all of the functions of the USB-234. The Stripchart, Oscilloscope, and the Function Generator are all supported. However, the USB-234 does not support a counter-based timer output and for that reason, the Rate Generator feature of TracerDAQ/TracerDAQ PRO is not supported.

1) The USB-234 is not supported under MATLAB’s Simulink. USB devices as you mentioned below, do not lend themselves well to real-time applications. Here you can find a list of all Measurement Computing products supported by Simulink: http://www.mathworks.com/hardware-support/real-time-windows-target.html 2) Based on my knowledge of Adaptive Feedback Control systems the Universal Library and/or the ULx drivers for NI LabVIEW along with NI LabVIEW could be used to develop a program for Adaptive Feedback Control. 3) No the USB-234 is not capable of simultaneous sampling. We do however, have USB devices that support simultaneous sampling but none that are supported by Simulink. 4) For pricing and delivery, please contact our distributor in your area.
