Measurement Computing Can't Deliver

Hard to honestly evaluate a product that the company delays delivery to the point to where it can't be used. Had a previous version and the capabilities of the board itself are not that bad. Just repeated sorry experiences with delivery and shipping makes the functional aspects of use untenable. NI really overcharges for their products and delivery issues are probably not much better. However, there does seem to be better overall integration which at this point would appear to be the difference maker.

Fast and reliable

This project involved several analog measurements, digital I/O, counter and thermocouple reading. The synchronous capabilities, the speed and multiple resources of the board, all that for a reasonable price made possible to successfully complete the project it was used for.

Operating 10 boards simultaneously. Outstanding and reliable!

I have used over 15 of these USB-2533 boards, and the companion TB-101terminal boards. I have operated ten USB-2533 boards simultaneously on one PC. The USB-2533 are used in the development and successful operations of Electric Potential and Electric Field Imaging with Dynamic Applications - 2017 Research Award for Innovation, ASNT shown at https://ntrs.nasa.gov/archive/nasa/casi.ntrs.nasa.gov/20170003221.pdf I needed technical support for triggering ten boards simultaneously and for understanding DASYLab software controls. The Measurement Computing technical hardware and software support for these boards has been Outstanding for many years.

Just ordered two more

I've been using MCC hardware for 10+ years starting with PCI-DAS6013s and moving through various USB multi function units. The USB-2523 is my favorite device to date! We use custom .Net applications and the fact that UL Library is so... well... universal makes it a breeze to change to new and better models.

very solid product, easy to program, reliable and inexpensive

We have used USB-2533 for 6-7 years in data acquisition. We have purchased about 10 of them. These ad converters are very reliable and have never causing any problem. The universal library is very concise and easy to use. Hopefully, this product will continue.

Very flexible board, lots of capability, high speed, decent noise

This board has a wide range of capabilities, 1MHz aggregate 16 bit acquisition, 4 fast 16 bit D/A and dio. Handles full samplerate continuous over usb. Its relatively easy to talk to using universal library. We use it with python, for which there is a nice open source library but I really wish MMC would support python directly, there are functions not available, and I'd rather not write my own wrappers.

Regretfully, there are no plans for adding Linux support for the USB-2500 series. You can view all of the Linux supported DAQ devices at: https://www.mccdaq.com/PDFs/Manuals/Linux-hw.pdf For a similar board to the USB-2523 please take a look at our USB-2623 DAQ device at: https://www.mccdaq.com/usb-data-acquisition/USB-2600-Series.aspx

I’d like to fill a Windows buffer at a high board-clocked rate with 20 seconds of samples from multiple analog input channels. At the same time, I need to be monitoring one (or more) of the analog input channels to make real-time process adjustments. Is this possible? Can I use AInScan() with BurstIo in background mode while also making readings periodically using Ain() at the same channel? If that wouldn’t work, then how about this: If I route the same signal to 2 analog input channels, could I then fill the buffer with one of the channels using AInScan() while also periodically reading the other using Ain()? Or, would using BlockIo instead of BurstIo be the best way to solve my problem? Can I get the system to continuously provide contiguous blocks of data using BlockIo in background mode, allowing me to continuously analyze the data of each of the latest blocks acquired?

Answers

No, it is not possible to perform an AInScan() and periodically call AIn(). You can do them both, but not at the same time. I recommend doing the following. While performing you AInScan(), whenever you need a fresh sample, call GetStatus() to find out where you are in the buffer and copy the latest value(s) for immediate use. If you are running in a finite scan and have created a buffer large enough to hold all your requested data. Copying a piece of the acquired buffer will not disturb the entire (or rest of) buffer. If you are running a continuous scan and want to either save or use all the data as you are collecting it. When you transfer a portion of the buffer to local memory, use the value(s) at the end of the copied array (the highest array numbered elements) as these are the newest values and then also save or use the data as you have planned.

We would like to use the data acquisition board in a setup but are a bit worried of damaging it with high voltage. Therefor we would like to opto-isolate the board from its input. Thanks in advance

We do offer termination boards that support opto-isolated 5B modules. Our ISO-RACK16/P supports up to 16 ISO-5B opto-isolated modules (although not a direct fit) The ISO-RACK16/P can be custom wired to the USB-2527 using the TB-101. You can review the ISO-RACK16/P here: http://www.mccdaq.com/signal-conditioning/ISO-RACK16-P.aspx. For your convenience, we also offer a large selection of ISO-5B opto-isolated modules, which you may view here: http://www.mccdaq.com/productsearch.aspx?q=ISO-5B

The USB-2533 has a max sample rate of 1 million samples/second on a single channel. The samples per second can be adjusted to the required amount for your application up to a maximum of 1 million samples per second. If you were to only sample one channel you could collect up to 1 million samples. The sample rate is aggregate so as you add channels you will need to divide the selected sample rate by the number of channels in use. An example would be as follows: Let’s say you were to sample 1 channel at 1 MS/s for 1 minute. You would collect 60 million samples.

Hi there, Could you please clarify, what is meant by Sample Rate: 1 MS/s. Is that per channel or the total for all channels used? If say I use 10 AI channels, the max for each channel is 1 Ms/s or 100 kS/s? Thanks

The sample rate for the USB-2500 series which includes the USB-2537 is aggregate. The 1 MS/sec specification is the total throughput for all channels. To use your example if you were to use 10 channels you would take the total sample rate of 1 MS and divide it down by the number of channels in use. In this case 10 so your per channel sample rate would be 100 kS/sec.
