Easy to use and versatile

The unit is very easy to use to configure, log data, and retrieve data. I've purchased many of these now and have them all over my plant. The convenience of location and easy hookup is fantastic.

Big Bang for Buck!

This data logger came to the rescue after trying to implement the use of a much costlier product from another manufacturer. This thing is extremely easy to use. The software makes setup a breeze. I can configure it and send it to a customer with a few instructions and be up and running in no time. No site visit required!

Easy, reliable, repeatable Data Logger

We had used this for a testing procedure on 4 analyzers. We also used another data logger to confirm readings. Unit was spot on and very easy to setup for use with 4-20 mA signals. Would definitely use again.

usb 5106 data logger

Seems like good product, still working with it for possible use in my line of equipment...however..the manual is NOT written for users in simple easy to follow methods...on the plus side...your tech help was GREAT...answered all questions and showed me how to operate it over the phone very quickly....I got better understanding from only a few minutes with him, than I did with the poorly written instructions. You need to rewrite them..or do like some others with a computer screen "walk through" of how to use. Note...I am, an mechanical engineer and I had trouble with the instruction. That is not a good thing

Easy to use, cost effective

I used this to measure average energy usage of a variable frequency drive over the course of 24 hours. The drive has a 4-20mA output that I used. The magnetic back is great - just stick it to the inside of the cabinet. I can see other applications this will come in handy as well - much better than setting up an expensive recorder scope, or DAQ system.

Good Product, No API

The product itself is probably good, but unlike most MCC products, it does not have an API (application programming interface). In other words, you cannot use it as an OEM part in a larger system. Not recommended for developers.

The LCD screen on the USB-5104 can be setup to display many specifics about the current status of the logger. Regrettably, date and time is not one of them. The data and time stamp is only available in the data file.

Does the software allow for continuous and live monitoring of the measured temperatures. Does it allow plotting of the live data or do I need to download data and plot data in an application like Excel?

Thank you for your inquiry. The USB-5104 is a standalone data logger. The software does not allow for real time data management. It does support a real time LCD display. Graphing of the data can be accomplished after the data has been off loaded. You can use the USB-5100 Series software package or Excel to graph and analyze your data. If you prefer real time data management then please consider using our USB-TC with our TracerDAQ application. The USB-TC supports up to 8 thermocouple inputs and TracerDAQ will capture, display, and log up to 8 channels of thermocouple data from our USB-TC.

We are running our annealing kilns at very high temperature. We mount thermocouple on the units to be annealed and then monitor the temperature on an instrument sitting outside hooked up to a computer. Would this unit monitor a kiln temperature at 1600°F

The unit supports K thermocouples which handle up to 2460F. Only issue might be the ambient temperature where the unit will be placed. The housing is made of plastic.

Thank you for your inquiry. With the USB-5104 standalone data logger and a K type thermocouple (with the proper insulation) you would be capable of logging temperature up to 2498 degrees F. The USB-5104 would require the use of a PC to configure the device and to off-load your data but does not require the use of a PC to collect the data. If you are looking for a device to collect real time temperature data via USB then take a look at the USB-TC (which would give you the same temperature range as the USB-5104)

Hello Jono - Thank you for your inquiry. The average battery life span for the USB-5104 is approximately 1 year when configured for a logging rate of 1 minute.

Answers

There is no field calibration for the USB-5104 hardware. Also the USB-5100 Series software does not allow/accept offset factors. If you felt an offset was necessary, you would have to export the data to a file, and use Excel to adjust the data.

Does the price $325.00 include certificate of NIST calibration? What would be a cost of calibration of the data logger with T- type thermocouples in three points as -80C, 0C, and +60C?

MCC does not offer NIST traceable calibration services for this model. You could identify a 3rd party facility, and send the unit out to them. They would not calibrate it, but they would verify the accuracy.

Hello, The USB-5106 is not capable of providing two readouts from one input channel. To do so you will need to split the output leads from your sensor into two separate channels on the USB-5106.

The USB-5106 unfortunately is not waterproof. The USB-5106 carries an IP50 rating which means that it is dust proof but has no protection against liquids. Unfortunately, at this time Measurement Computing does not offer a waterproof enclosure. However, we do offer several data loggers that do offer some protection from liquids. Several of the USB-600 series and the USB-500 series carry an IP67 rating which makes them dust proof and waterproof when immersed up to 1M for short periods of time. You can review these devices at: http://www.mccdaq.com/usb-data-acquisition/USB-500-Series.aspx. Please contact Sales Engineering at 1-800-234-4232 Ext-3 if you have any questions.

The USB-5106 along with the CABLE-4-20mA is compatible with 4-20 mA signals. Your logging duration will depend on how many channels you will have enabled. The USB-5106 supports up to 5 inputs one of them being the status of the logger’s battery. If all 5 channels are enabled you will be able to log for 5.3 days. If only 4 channels are enabled you can log for 6 days, 8 days for 3 channels, 11.9 days for 2, and 23.9 days if only one channel is enabled.

What is the input impedance of this product, from the circuit's perspective looking into your 5V, 10V & 24V adapter cables? Why are special cables needed for each voltage range? Is the system measuring voltage at the 2.5mm plug? If so what is the input impedance? And the voltage range? Thanks, Bob

Hello Bob, The USB-5106 has a set input range of 0-2.5 volts with an input impedance of 10 ^13. The cables are voltage dividers and are required to measure voltages outside the 0-2.5 volt input range. The input impedance of the cable adapters are as follows; Cable-adap24:15k ohm, Cable-adap10: 5kohm, Cable-adap5: 10k ohm x 2. Please contact Sales Engineering at 1-800-234-4232 Ext-3 if you have additional questions.
